RICHARD COUGHLIN Richard Coughlin, 78, died peacefully in his home in Port St. Lucie, Fla. on Oct. 19, 2013. Funeral services with military honors were held on Oct. 22, with inurnment to be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. Richard was born in New York, and enlisted in the U.S. Marines at age 17. Before he retired from the Marines, he served as a drill instructor, military police officer
, and recruiter. From 1982-2000, he worked primarily in Death Valley National Park and was promoted to the chef position at all three of the major resorts there--Furnace Creek Ranch, Furnace Creek Inn and Stovepipe Wells Village. It was in Death Valley that he met his wife, Kari, and together they started up a 20 acre ranch in Amargosa Valley. In 2006 the Coughlins moved to Florida. He is survived by his wife, Kari; his daughters, Kelly Herst of Brighton, Colo., and Bridget Nodurft of DeKalb, Ill.; sons, Brian Coughlin of Danbury, Conn., and John Henry Brandes of Orange, Conn.
