MSGT. GEORGE CURTIS U.S. Air Force, Retired George Ackley Curtis, 83, of Stockport, Ohio, passed away peacefully at 5:08 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at home, with his family by his side. He was born Dec. 8, 1933, in Delaware, Ohio, the oldest of seven sons, to Walter and Nettie Curtis. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 23 years. He served in the Korean and Vietnam wars and was a member of the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds Air Demonstration Team stationed at Nellis AFB, Las Vegas. He loved the Air Force and the Thunderbirds. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked at the Clark County Community College in Las Vegas for 26 years. George became the superintendent of maintenance of two large college campuses and obtained associate degrees in his work field before retiring from the college. He lived in Pahrump where he was a 12-year resident. He moved to Stockport in 2013 to live with his son, George and daughter-in-law, Ruth Curtis. He attended the Stockport United Methodist Church. He was married to Betty Curtis for 50 years and he loved her until the day he died. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Fred, Johnny and Edward; grandson, Jason Curtis; granddaughter, Kimberly Curtis; and family, Evelyn and Shavey McElwee. He is survived by his sons, George (Ruth) Curtis of Stockport, and David Curtis of California; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Richard, Ty and Max Curtis. A caring cremation took place per his wishes. George will be sadly missed but he will forever be remembered as a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend and "Thunderbird."
