JAMES ALDEN GREGORY James Alden Gregory "Jim", 83, passed away on November 5, 2016. He was born on September 10, 1933 in Joe, NC. He was a 22 year veteran of the United States Navy. His assignments included a variety of ships but his favorite was to the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid with a home port of Norfolk, VA. He was assigned to the Intrepid for three years which included two combat tours to the Gulf of Tonkin. Later in his career he was stationed in Sasebo, Japan where he met his wife Emiko, and many lifelong friends. James was an enlisted man that was selected for Senior Chief and Warrant Officer at the same time. He chose Warrant Officer and went through all the warrant ranks then became an officer, eventually retiring as Lieutenant JG. After retiring from the Navy, he worked for SEDCO, an offshore drilling company. He traveled around the world inspecting off-shore oil drilling rigs. His work took him to Spain, Brazil, Singapore, and Japan. He moved to Pahrump 22 years ago and has been very active in community affairs. He was Commander of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 15, driving veterans to Las Vegas for their doctor's appointments until he no longer could get around as well. He volunteered for the Sheriff's Auxiliary. He formed and served as Chairman of the Pahrump Prostate Cancer Group Us Too. He is survived by his brothers: JD Gregory and Fred Gregory; and his sister, Gail Wilson of Hickory, NC; his son, John Gregory and family of Phoenix, AZ; his wife Emiko Gregory; his son, Douglas Gregory and family of Pahrump. Services will be held Noon on Thurs., November 17, at Pahrump Family Mortuary, 5441 Vicki Ann Rd.
