MARY ELIZABETH WARD Obituary
MARY ELIZABETH WARD Mary Elizabeth Ward, 83, of Pahrump, Nev. passed away peacefully on May 17, 2018, after being surrounded for three days by family and friends at a Nathan Adelson Hospice facility in Las Vegas, Nev. She was born June 25, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan to parents Earnest (Ted) and Mabel Wise. At age 8, her family moved west to Altadena, California, where she resided for the remainder of her youth. She first met Roger Paul Ward in Altadena in May, 1953. They married on Feb 20, 1954 in his hometown of Las Vegas, where they also settled down to start their family. They moved to Pahrump in 1970 and divorced three years later. Mary moved back to Las Vegas in 1986 after the youngest of her eight children graduated high school. She retired in 1999 and returned to Pahrump in 2005. Mary worked full-time in telecommunications for the hospitality industry in Las Vegas from her early twenties until she retired at age 65. After a few shorter stints as a telephone operator at the New Frontier, Flamingo, Sands, and Landmark Hotels during the late 50s and early 60s, she returned to the Sands Hotel in 1963. During her 10 years at the Sands, she was promoted to Supervisor and again to Chief Operator. Then in 1973, when the original MGM Grand Hotel (now Bally's) was nearing completion, she took the helm as their Chief Operator. With over 2,000 rooms, it was the largest hotel in the world at that time. She retired 26 years later in 1999 as the Director of Telecommunications at Bally's Hotel. Mary joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints back in 1953, but went inactive after several months. In the late 1990s, however, she became active again and remained a strong and devoted member until she passed. She held several callings over those twenty years, many of which were related to Family History including Director of the Family History Center in Pahrump for several years. She was preceded in death by three of her four brothers, Karl Wise, Thomas Wise, Joseph Wise; her sister Peggy Dray; and one of her precious granddaughters, Christy Elizabeth Ward. She is survived by her remaining brother, Robert Wise; her eight children, Kady (Roger) Pearson, Jared Ward, Vilace (Keith) Pearson, Jathan (Debbie) Ward, Janelle (Sergio) Veloz, Moroni (Gina) Ward, Eldon (Paula) Ward, and Misti (Anthony) Scott; 32 of her 33 grandchildren; her 65 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
