1936 - 2018 Obituary
PATRICIA "PAT" EDENFIELD On Feb. 22, 2018, Patricia "Pat" Edenfield, 81 years old, lost her long struggle with heart disease. Father, James Weldon Hicks and mother, Edna Louise Crawford-Hicks welcomed Janey Lou Patricia "Pat" Hicks into the world on July 9, 1936. Born in Michigan, she immigrated west in 1959 with dreams of becoming a dancer. Her career of choice was soon sidelined with being a full-time mother of five. In 1976, Pat moved from California to Pahrump and was instrumental in setting up the first Humane Society there. She worked tirelessly her entire life on behalf of animals. She was a frequent writer in the Pahrump Valley Tribune as well. After the kids had moved away, Pat decided to take up nursing. Pat loved to go on ambulance runs as an EMT and especially took great pride in teaching new recruits. Later she went to work with Nevada Home Heath Services as an in-home heath care provider. In 2002, Pat suffered a massive heart attack, and was not expected to survive. However, she not only survived, but thrived! She moved from Pahrump to Las Vegas and lived with her daughter, Maria Kalber, and went back to work as a home health care provider with Nevada Home Health Services. Pat traveled extensively at this time, taking jaunts to explore her family roots in Cornwall and Scotland. She enjoyed trips to New York, Washington, D.C., New England, Mexico, and frequent trips to San Francisco and San Diego to visit her sons. Pat loved to tell stories and laugh, and she had a laugh that could be heard over everything else in the room. That laugh, her compassion, and her tireless efforts on behalf of others will be missed by the countless people whose lives she's touched. Pat is survived by her five children, Michele Gandee of Vista, Calif.; John Montville of Escondido, Calif.; Maia Ray of Sedona, Ariz.; Maria Kalber of Las Vegas; and Eric Edenfield of Santa Rosa, Calif; brother, Brian Hicks; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Her Celebration of Life will take place at Palm Southwest in Las Vegas at 11:00 a.m. on March 10th. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the Las Vegas Valley Humane Society.
