On Thursday, 30 January 2020, the spirit of Beverly Anita Nias (nee Barnes) ascended from this earth at the age of 59. Beverly was born in 1960 in Newark, NJ, where she was raised by her loving parents, Herbert Douglas and Dorothy Barnes. Following her musical inclination, Beverly graduated from Arts High School in 1978. Beverly continued to strive to greatness, serving in the Army National Guard, where she met and married the love of her life, Lawrence Nias, with whom she raised two children, Tiesha Stewart and David Nias. Beverly was a lifelong learner, and was committed to pursuing her higher education even after having her children, achieving a bachelor's degree from Thomas Edison State University in NJ, and graduating with her Master of Science as a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Beverly continued her learning to specialize in Radiation Therapy, establishing herself as a leading practitioner in the field as a member of the medical staff of JFK Medical Center, Muhlenberg Hospital, and Hackensack University Medical Center. Beverly parlayed her professional reputation and expert skill set to inspire and empower others as the Director of Muhlenberg's Schools of Radiation Therapy in Plainfield, NJ. Upon retiring from her Radiation Therapy career, Beverly and Larry, relocated from Plainfield, NJ to Pahrump, NV, where Beverly took on a 2nd career as Pharmacy Technician at CVS.
While Beverly's academic and professional achievements are remarkable in of themselves, the breadth and depth of her legacy lies in her amazing warmth, wisdom, altruistic service to others. Whether it was a lifelong friend, a family member, a colleague, a student, a customer, or a stranger, Beverly would not hesitate to lend a helping hand, an empathetic ear, or a kind word. She found so much joy in making others smile, that she would often master making foods that she would not even eat herself, like her world-famous cheesecake! The number of lives positively impacted by Beverly's time on this earth is immeasurable and cannot be overstated. We all share in the immense grief of the untimely loss of such a beautiful soul.
Beverly is survived by her husband Lawrence R. Nias; daughter, Tiesha S. Stewart; son, David L. Nias; "bonus daughter" / niece, Jacinda Chislum Pearson; granddaughter, Nijah R. Crawford; great granddaughter, Nayla Hanks; sister, Patricia Jackson; loving in-laws, niece, nephew and a host of extended family and loved ones who will keep Beverly's legacy of love, generosity, and service to others alive in her honor.
In lieu of flowers, if you'd like to honor Beverly's memory, please make a donation to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Services will be private.
