CHARLES MEL RUSSELL Charles Mel Russell, 82, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2019 surrounded by his family. Mel grew up in Tacoma, Wash. before moving to the California Bay Area for work in the civil engineering field. His work took him to many cities throughout northern and southern Calif., as well as other states and countries before landing in Pahrump in 1999. He worked on the Rosemary Clarke Middle School and Hafen Elementary School construction projects for the Nye County School District. Mel loved to tell jokes, laugh and talk about his experiences. His passion was bowling. He always joined several leagues wherever he lived. Mel's best friend, Lee Burchfield, introduced him to martial arts, which he practiced for many years and loved to show off his moves. He married the love of his life, Mary Russell, 40 years ago last July. Mel is survived by his wife, Mary Russell; son, Danny Ray Russell; his stepchildren, Debra Raubach Penovich, Phil Raubach, Joe Dal Cielo, Sharlene Russell; eight grandchildren; two great-grand-children; and several nieces and nephews. As a polio survivor since 1943, donations can be made to the March of Dimes in lieu of flowers. No services will be held.
