Darius Swann was the lead plaintiff in the landmark Supreme Court case, Swann v. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education. In 1964, Reverend Swann tried to send his 6-year old son James to an integrated elementary school in their neighborhood. James came home upset with a note from the principal that he must first attend an all-black school before applying to attend an integrated school. That led the Swanns to be the lead plaintiffs in the case that was decided in 1971. The court said that busing was a proper tool to use to desegregate schools.

Sometimes we just have to stand up for principles we truly believe in. MrSwann did just that. The family has my sympathy. May God be with the family and grant you peace of heart.

Truly grateful for Mr. Swann's contributions to the desegregation of schools. Praying that his family finds comfort in knowing that he is peacefully sleeping and is now in God's memory. Heartfelt condolences for your loss!

I am sorry regarding the loss of your loved one. I do believe everyone has a right to attend a public school of their choice. We pay taxes for the public schools and God created us all from the same source
