JAMES EDWARD (JIM) HAYNES Obituary
JAMES (JIM) EDWARD HAYNES James (Jim) Edward Haynes, age 83, passed away peacefully Dec.18, 2017 in Las Vegas after a lengthy illness. With his wife of 55 years, Carol, by his side, Jim finished his mortal existence. As a "golden heart" stopped beating and hard-working hands put to rest, he was to be reunited for a joyous reunion with a Loving God, family and friends, who have been waiting to greet him. He was born Aug. 2, 1934 in Gallup, N.M. He served in the U.S. Army in 1957 and received an honorable discharge in 1963 at Fort Benning, Ga. Previously residing in Las Vegas, he had been a Pahrump resident for 20 years. Jim attended 5th Street Grammar School, Las Vegas High School, and enrolled in the International Brotherhood apprentice program. He became a master electrician of Local 357 until he retired in 1996. During the time of his career he became an electrical contractor, took many classes of welding, air conditioning, etc. Always working at learning new skills, as a master electrician, Jim worked in the Las Vegas area as well as the Nevada Test Site, as far back as the 1950's. He retired in 1997, but remained an active member of the IBEW Retiree's Association. He was honored in 2017 with his 65-year service pin.Jim lived life to the fullest with his family always supporting each other--soccer games, camping, fishing in Utah, hunting, flying his plane, racing motorcycles in desert dirt tracks. He participated in the dune buggy "Mint 400," and helped with races, "Best in the Desert" with Casey Folks. Jim became a Mason and a Shriner and did much with the Shrine clowns. With his family close by, also circus parades and grand openings, etc. Jim always tried and succeeded to be a better person. Honorable mention to major influences in his life for the best goes to Herb Hill Sr. and Frank Urban. Upon retirement, Jim and Carol relocated to Pahrump. Retirement did not slow him down. He was always willing to help and provide services to his neighbors and community. He was involved with Carol in helping to fund a church and spent many hours working to accomplish that goal. Jim knew how to have fun, and he enjoyed the many activities Pahrump offered, to name a few, Harvest Festival "sexy leg contest" (won twice), the "grape stomp" at the local winery, movies in the park, as well as live entertainment at various places in Pahrump. Jim will be remembered for his smile and his blue eyes, but also for his integrity and his devotion to family and community. He was predeceased by his father, Jack Haynes, California; mother, Rose Edwards Haynes, Las Vegas; brothers, Jack and Robert Haynes, Las Vegas; sister, Rose Ann Haynes Medici, Las Vegas. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Carol J. Richen Haynes, Pahrump (married August , 1962 and renewed marriage vows many times for anniversaries); son, Michael James Haynes, Las Vegas; daughter, Tina D. Haynes, Las Vegas; beloved nieces and nephews and friends. He is also survived by his "sorta grandchildren," three Doxies-- "Ginger," "Ruckus" and "Cookie." The Lord called "come with me," and he went. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the acts of kindness and condolences given to the family. A previously held memorial Mass was held in Pahrump at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, followed with a Celebration of Life luncheon on May 30, 2018. Burial was August 2, 2018 at the Pahrump Family Mortuary and Grandview Cemetery.
