JOE L. SMITH Joe was born March 16, 1961 in Las Vegas. He grew up around Tecopa and Shoshone, Calif. He also spent many years at Resting Springs Ranch outside of Tecopa. Joe graduated from Death Valley High School. His first big job was with Morgan Lynn, a friend through his life, working at the Billy mine. Joe worked as a welder and a heavy equipment operator his whole career. He said he was lucky to work with all the people he did at the last mining boom. He was able to listen to the stories and history of this area and be a part of it. Joe loved his family and his friends. He liked cooking with Dutch ovens, carpentry and his farm. He was quick on humor and wit. Joe is missed by all of us and was laid to rest in Beatty, Nev. Joe was preceded in death by his stepson, Daniel Hughes. He left behind his wife, Yvonne Smith; stepmother, Karen Smith; son, Joseph Smith; daughters, Chantelle McNeel and Danielle Alee; brother, Dale Smith of New Mexico; sister, Janie Johnson of Oregon.
