MAUREEN PATRICIA-ANN ATKINS Maureen Patricia-Ann Atkins, 74, daughter of Elsie and Anton Jansen, passed away January 9, 2020, in her home in Pahrump. Maureen was born January 28, 1945 in Los Angeles, Calif. She grew up, along with her older sister Kathleen, in the Hollywood area of Southern Calif., attending Immaculate Heart H.S. For most of those years, due to her mother's early death, she was raised by her beloved paternal aunts Ann and Nelly. While attending Mt. St. Mary's College in Los Angeles, she met Van, her lifelong love of 52+ years, and married him in September 1969. The young family first settled in their native Southern Calif., and while there, Maureen brought into this world their first two children, Reinette and Sean, both born in the same hospital as their mom. The family then moved to Asia for 10 years, and in that period saw Maureen giving birth to her two younger children, Kellen, born in Guam, and Braeden, born in Manila. Their overseas travels saw Maureen and Van visit 40+ countries on six continents. Maureen started her career as a teacher and was a serial entrepreneur, but her primary vocation was as mother and wife. Throughout her life, Maureen was completely devoted to the Catholic faith with which Our Lord had blessed her. She always strived to show the loving face of Jesus to all she met and loved; whether intimate family or strangers. She and Van were active in various Church ministries and apostolates for all of their wonderful years together; most recently acting as christian initiation coordinators for their beloved Our Lady of the Valley parish in the Nevada desert town of Pahrump to which they retired in 2007. Within her immediate family, Maureen leaves behind her daughter, Reinette Carlson of Woodland, Calif.; three sons, Sean Atkins of Larchmont, N.Y., Kellen Atkins of Simi Valley, Calif., and Braeden Atkins of Woodland, Calif., and their combined eight grandchildren, Roshelle, Avalon, Finnegan, Marlise, Dacey, Taryn, Kiernan, and Kyson; her sister, Kathleen Nosko of Burbank, Calif. She also leaves behind hundreds of other loving relatives and friends whose hearts she forever touched. There will be a Viewing & Rosary on Thursday, January 16 at 7:00 p.m. at the Pahrump Family Mortuary, 5441 Vicki Ann Rd., Pahrump. On Friday, January 17, at 2:00 p.m. there will be a Funeral Mass & Reception at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, 781 Gamebird Rd., Pahrump. And on Tuesday, January 21 at 12:00 p.m. there will be a Burial Ceremony at Assumption Catholic Cemetary, 1380 Fitzgerald Rd., Simi Valley, Calif. 93065. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Religious Education Fund at Our Lady of the Valley parish in Pahrump, NV, by making a check payable to that parish and earmarking it specifically for the Fund.
