Pegi Young (1952 – 2018) was the co-founder of the Bridge School with her former husband, singer Neil Young. The pair were married for 36 years before getting a divorce in 2014. She was the inspiration for some of his songs including “Harvest Moon.”
They started the Bridge School when they could not find a school to provide the services they wanted for their son Ben, who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. The educational non-profit assists children with severe disabilities to get the programs they need at school.
The school was well known for their annual Bridge School Benefit Concert, organized by Pegi, which brought some of the most famous musicians to perform at the fundraising event. Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, and other top musicians have participated. The concerts ended in 2016.
Pegi Young had sang backup at times for Neil but really focused on her music career later in life. She released her debut album in 2007 at the age of 55. Her most recent album titled “Raw,” released in 2017, dealt with the breakup of her marriage.
We invite you to share condolences for Pegi Young in our Guest Book.
