ROBERT H. ADAMS Robert Hollis Adams, 81, passed away on July 28, 2019 in Pahrump after a brief illness. Robert was born August 14, 1937 in Louisville, Ky, the oldest son of Robert Patteson Adams, Jr. of Louisville, Ky. and Rebecca Commandeur Adams of Bardstown, Ky. He attended Atherton High School in Louisville and graduated from Western Kentucky University. He served his country honorably in the United States Army. At the time of his passing, Robert had been married to Melanie Bessire Adams of Louisville, Ky. for 56 years. The couple met at Berea College and were married in a double wedding ceremony at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Louisville, along with the bride's sister and her spouse. Robert Adams is survived by his wife Melanie, and their two children, Katherine Louise McArtor (m. Brian McArtor) of Pahrump, and William Patteson Adams (m. Kendal Bird Adams) of Henderson, Nev. as well as his brother, Ben Commandeur Adams (m. Virginia Kay Gouge Adams) of Gray, Tenn. Robert followed his father into the insurance business (Key-Adams Insurance) and later established Adams-McFarren Insurance. The family moved to Cox's Creek, Ky. in 1974 where they had a home built and Robert coached elementary basketball and little league baseball. After retirement, Robert and Melanie moved to Nevada, settling in Pahrump in 1993. Robert planted and tended grape vines and bottled his own wine from the abundant harvest. An avid University of Kentucky Wildcats fan, Robert never missed a basketball or football game and his house was painted UK blue! Robert served in the Episcopal Church as a lay reader. In recent years he connected to his birth family including his father, Rogers Akers (since deceased), discovering he had both a brother and sister residing in California. This extension of the family was a delight to Robert who regularly visited and emailed as he did with all his family. He is therefore survived by another brother, Brian Akers of Covina, Calif., and sister, Patricia Taylor of San Diego, Calif. A Going Home Celebration will be held at Pahrump Family Mortuary on August 14, 2019 at 10:00 a.m.
