STEPHEN LYLE SMITH Stephen Lyle Smith passed away January 25, 2021 in Las Vegas, Nev. He was born in Ottumwa, Iowa on April 21, 1947 to Lyle and Marjory Smith. Due to his dad's job, Steve averaged ten schools a year. His family finally settled down in Prescott, Ariz. While in high school, he met the love of his life, Georgia Armstrong, and they were married on January 21, 1967. Soon after their marriage, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1967-1969. Before he was deployed to Vietnam, he was assigned to the Noncommissioned Officers Candidate School in Fort Benning, Ga. He was proud to be a Vietnam Veteran. After completing his service, Steve and Georgia moved to Barstow, Calif. where he worked for CONTEL Telephone Company. He also served as a Reserve Officer for the Barstow Police Department for 28 years. He was transferred to Big Bear City, Calif. with CONTEL in 1979 where they raised their two boys. While living in Big Bear, he was highly involved with his sons' sports and enjoyed coaching and umpiring. As President of Big Bear Kiwanis, he was the founder of the annual Mountain Fun Day for children with disabilities. His family moved to Hesperia, Calif. in 1992. He retired from CONTEL and became a Code Enforcement Officer for the City of Barstow. He retired in 2008, and they moved to Pahrump Nev. He was a member of the Pahrump Moose Lodge, Mountain Falls Men's Golf Club, and several bowling leagues as he loved to golf, bowl, hunt, fish, and play keno and bingo. For approximately 45 years, he would proudly serve as Santa making many children and adults very happy. He was so proud of his family and grandkids and enjoyed going to as many school and sporting events as possible to support them and their teams. He was a proud recipient of the "Quilt of Valor" presented to him by the Nye County Valor Quilters in 2019. He was loved and liked by so many friends across the country. He had a witty out-going personality, and he never met a stranger. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Georgia; two sons, Brian (Anita) and Kevin (Kimberly) both of Las Vegas; five grandkids; two great-grandkids; brothers, Dennis Smith of Wittmann, Ariz., Rick Smith (Debbie) of San Tan Valley, Ariz.; sister, Tina Tabor (Philip) of Mesa, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Carol Hansen of Pahrump; brother-in-law, Charles Baker of Phoenix, Ariz.; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Stephen is preceded in death by his sister, (Sheila); his mother, (Marjory); his step dad, (Robert); his father, (Lyle). A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 6 at 11:00 a.m., Heritage Bible Church, 3061 Homestead Drive, Pahrump NV.
